Mayan Holidaze 2012
January 26-30, 2012
Now Sapphire Resort
Puerto Morelos, Mexico - Mayan Riviera
We couldn't WAIT to get back to Now Sapphire this year! The positive energy flowing through the lobby on day 1 was something truly special. Since almost everyone there was with us last year, there was a sense of camaraderie, almost a badge of honor to be there. Game on.
The bands were in fantastic form, all rejoicing this wonderful life we lead. Their shows were some of the best we've seen. Friends and family gathered around them night and day. The beach was packed with memorable moments, the pool was slammed with free spirited music lovers, enjoying day time sets from Wyllys and Jen Hartswick, Ample Mammal and even an acoustic set by Brendan Bayliss. Late night sets exploded in the Disco. The sunset sets were perfect as Big Gigantic, The Polish Ambassador and Lance Herbstrong kept us all dancing. Umphrey's even played an incredible version of David Bowie's, "Let's Dance!" Their level of intensity these days is something cosmic. And to amplify the vibe, pun intended, STS9 performed their final set without computers, something they RARELY do!!! And the Biscuits…oh the Biscuits…some say their last set was the best rocktronics they had ever heard from them.
"In lak ech," in Mayan, means, "You are my other or my brother." It's just another way of saying we are all connected, all in this together. Not only is it a bit of Mayan mysticism but it is, indeed, a certain state that can be attained during a show for the willing participant. Being on a beach in Mexico after dark certainly helped with the mystical part. So did the music. We've been told Cloud 9 events aren't festivals, aren't vacations but musical journeys. Thanks for letting us guide you. Now onto Tulum...
